Elinchrom & Fuji on Wight : IWDIG World Wide Photo Walk 2014

Once again the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group (IWDIG) are hosting a World Wide Photo Walk on the Isle of Wight in 2014. This year’s walk will be held around Freshwater Bay focusing on Dimbola Museum and Galleries, the former home of the pioneering Victorian photographer Julia Margaret Cameron.

The Isle of Wight is full of photo opportunities and we are revisiting Dimbola as this was a great place for us to meet up and where we held our first successful World Wide Photo Walk in 2011.

The walk will take place at 11am on Saturday 11th October 2014 and will last for approximately 2 hours.

You are invited to sign-up for the IWDIG World Wide Photo Walk, Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight, where we are pleased to   announce that Elinchrom, The Flash Centre and Fuji will be joining us. They will be bringing along some of their latest lighting systems, cameras and lenses for you to try and answering your questions.

IWDIG Photographers Getting Ready For Christmas & New Year

Next week we will be putting down our cameras and focusing on having a good time as the IWDIG Christmas Party is taking place on December 18th.

For anyone not attending those festivities – tonight Wednesday 11th December will be our last regular weekly meeting at Dimbola of 2013.

We look forward to seeing all of you next year on 8th January 2014. Until then, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope the New Year is filled with health, happiness and prosperity for all.

Shoot, View & BBQ Fort Victoria

Taking advantage of the spell of glorious summer weather the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group moved their venue to Fort Victoria for the group meeting this week.  A shoot, view and BBQ was the theme for the evening, although the viewing will take place at the meeting next week. ‘Contrast’ was the photographic task set for the evening with the fort, beach and woodland providing plenty of scope for colour, texture and lighting contrasts.

Although the shooting continued throughout the evening, taking advantage of the sunset, location and the sailing around Hurst Castle, the BBQ brought the photography to a halt for a while. With choc-ices, sausages & burgers, fresh strawberries & cupcakes, lashings of ginger beer and plenty to go around a great time was had by everyone. Thanks to Amanda for all of the food preparation, John for teas & coffees and David for supplying the home-grown strawberries. Everyone agreed that it was a great feast and that the evening couldn’t have been better,  sunshine and a warm breeze,  let’s look forward to a few more of these!

Studio Lighting Courses

The IWDIG is pleased to promote the Studio Lighting Courses as shown below. Many of our photographers have already attended one or more of these courses and they come highly recommended,

The course was great, I learnt a lot and was impressed by how professional both the trainer and model were. I’m looking forward to a refresher course later in the year, thanks.

Isle of Wight Stargazers: Star Count 2013

Isle of Wight Stargazers are being asked to count the number of stars they can see (with the naked eye) within the constellation of Orion.

The national Star Count (clear skies permitting) will take place between Friday 8th February – Monday 18th February.

Everyone who joins in will have a chance to win a fantastic telescope or one of ten copies of the Stargazers’ Almanac.

FREE Entry To Dimbola During February

Dimbola Museum and Galleries in Freshwater, will be allowing visitors FREE entry to the Galleries for the entire month of February.

This is to encourage Isle of Wight visitors and locals to get involved in their heritage, and to engage with some of our exhibitions, one of which is a rare photographic exhibition from the Scott Polar Research institute in Cambridge. Continue reading
